choma.jpgEver since I can remember, I’ve known that I would own my own business. It just wasn't clear to me what kind. So my eyes were always peeled trying to pick up on the type of business that I should start--  and I've started a few.

While I was in going to college, my father and I started a retail store which we expanded to two locations and sold the business seven years later. During that time I also started publishing a magazine, launched a marketing company, and started a record label, all of which ended in their first year of business.

I discovered personal development tapes and heard Jim Rohn say millionaires are made in the second 8 hours of work. The full time job pays the bills, but what's done with the second 8 hours of the day determines your financial future.

So I decided to get a job and went in search of a part time business that would secure my financial future. Having experienced small business ownership with positive and negative results, this time I wanted a business that did not come with the headaches of traditional business.

The only industry with explosive growth potential without traditional business headaches is network marketing. I started my Pre-Paid Legal business on a part time basis in October 1998.

Working the business 5 – 10 hours a week the first year, and 10-20 hours a week the second, allowed my wife to quit her full time job at Merrill Lynch in early 2000. And, now I pursue my Pre-Paid business full time.

Julie and I are excited to be building a business from our home, when we choose, with whom ever we choose to build it. The best feeling of all for me is knowing that I give people the opportunity to create a better life for themselves and their families, as opposed giving them a job to make $6 an hour, like I did in our traditional business.

Today I truly understand the words, "help enough people get what they want and you will ultimately get what you want", as was often quoted by my sponsor Patrick Shaw, who became my mentor and my friend. As my teacher, he definitely appeared when I was ready to be a student.

My goal over the next few years is to be the type of sponsor that Patrick has been for me -- to help as many people get what they want out of this business and ultimately out of life.
